Guy Clark Background Information
Country songwriter and performer Guy Clark in his early musical career was influenced by the Spanish music and the songs that he heard in West Texas. The artist credits Townes Van Zandt as his major influence on his songwriting career. They had been close friends for many years until Van Zandt's died in 1997. Since then, Guy Clark has included one of his friend's compositions on most of his recordings. In 1995, Guy recorded a live album together with Van Zandt and Steve Earle, entitled Together at the Bluebird Café.

Guy Clark has been a mentor to such other artists as Rodney Crowell and Steve Earle. The singer organized Steve's first job as a writer in Nashville. In the ‘70s, his home in Nashville was an open house for musicians and songwriters. It features in the video Heartworn Highways.
Guy is also an accomplished luthier and frequently plays his own guitars. Clark’s most recent recording was released in late November 2006; it is entitled Workbench Songs. The release is nominated for "Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album" at the Grammy Awards. The singer is now continuing to tour with Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett, and John Hiatt in 2007.
