Canadian jazz singer Holly Cole is a particularly popular in Canada and Japan due to her wonderful voice and adventurous repertoire. It spans such divergent genres as show tunes, rock, and country music.
In the early ‘80s, Holly Cole traveled to Toronto to seek a musical career. There she organized a trio with bassist David Piltch and pianist Aaron Davis. Shortly after, they released an EP, Christmas Blues, featuring a striking version of The Pretenders' "2,000 Miles". The record was followed by the trio’s first full album called Girl Talk (in 1990).
After releasing 1993's Don't Smoke In Bed, the band took on its most audacious effort: it was a CD entirely of Tom Waist’s songs. It was called Temptation.
Her next step was a two-album flirtation with pop music. The two albums, Dark Dear Heart (1997) and Romantically Helpless (2000) introduced pop elements to Holly Cole's sound.
However, in 2001, Cole returned to the jazz roots of her first CD with Baby It's Cold Outside. The release included such classic compositions as "Christmas Time is Here" (from A Charlie Brown Christmas), "Santa Baby", and the title track. She also moved to a Summer theme in 2003's Shade, reinterpreting Cole Porter ("Too Darn Hot"), Irving Berlin ("Heatwave"), and Brian Wilson ("God Only Knows").
Holly Cole's latest album, Holly Cole, which was originally named This House Is Haunted was released in February 2007.
