A present rodeo appeared from a working cowboy and his duties on the pasture. After a hard labor of moving livestock through the country riding rude broncs was only for fun and competition. The sport of rodeo developed from these friendly and informal competitions in 1800s.
It was in 1936 that rodeo evolved into professional sport. That year a small group of cowboys refused to participate in rodeo in Boston as the promoters were taking nearly all profits from the show. This group formed the Cowboy Turtles Association which became the Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1945 and 1975 was renamed the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Nowadays the association counts nearly 7000 cowboys members. Today rodeo is very popular and high-stakes sport. On the whole more than 20 million tickets are sold for rodeo shows every year worldwide and even more people watch them on TV. For most of the participants rodeo is not just a job and an opportunity to earn their living but a way of life.
