American singer and songwriter Iris DeMent's musical style combines the genres of country and folk music. In her childhood, the girl was exposed to and influenced by country and gospel music. The singer writes "storyteller" songs about her daily experiences in simple language.
The musician’s first album, entitled Infamous Angel, was released in 1992. It explored such themes as religious skepticism that lives in a town, "where nothing good ever lasts", and forgiving human frailness.

She played the character Rose Gentry and sang on the soundtrack.
