Iron and Wine Supporting New Album with 2013 World Tour
With a forthcoming fifth studio album, “Ghost on Ghost,” set for release on April 11, Iron and Wine has revealed dates for a 2013 world tour. Sam Beam, who goes by his stage name, Iron and Wine, will launch the global trek on May 11 at the inaugural BottleRock Napa Valley Festival in Napa, Calif. From there, the U.S. leg of Iron and Wine tour dates will include gigs at Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead in Pittsburgh (May 13), the Beacon Theatre in New York City (May 14), Union Transfer in Philadelphia, Pa. (May 15), Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Va. (May 16), Berklee Performance Center in Boston, Mass. (May 17), State Theatre in Portland, Maine (May 18), and the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. (May 19). European dates will extend from late May to early June.
Fellow folk artists, The Secret Sisters, will serve as Iron and Wine’s supporting act for the duration of the U.S. dates, and those who purchase Iron and Wine tickets should be prepared to hear plenty of new material. “Ghost on Ghost” will be a 12-track album, and, according to Iron and Wine, it strays from the “anxious tension” that fans have become accustomed to. The latest track, “Lovers’ Revolution,” provides a sample of his new direction, and it’s a clear indication that he made a wise decision.
