Joan Osborne Background Info

Critics say that Joan Osborne makes songs by looking back as she moves forward. Her new album is all about her influences of R&B and Soul. Joan is considered to be a gifted singer who is not afraid to deal with classics or mix her own songs.

When you hear the album’s title a warm Sunday morning with a loved one comes to your mind. Still, the title song seems to be emotionally brutal. The song that was previously connected with the names of Baby Washington and Dusty Springfield tells about a woman whose boyfriend has left for another woman. In general the album includes songs about the efforts of making a relationship work.

Joan Osborne is oiginally from Louisville. In the late 80’s she decided to move to New York City and form her own record label, better known as Womanly Hips. The second album of the singer Relish released in 1995 was a success. The song “One of Us” clicked with the pop-oriented public. "St. Teresa" and "Right Hand Man" were the hits to follow the success of "One of Us”. In 2002 Joan Osborne was featured in the documentary film called Standing in the Shadows of Motown and went on a tour together with Motown sidemen the Fank Brothers.
