Joe Cocker Has Friends
Many are familiar with Joe Cocker by way of The Wonder Years theme song “Little Help From My Friends” or his cover of yet another Beatles song, “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window”. Joe Cocker covered other Beatles songs, supported The Rolling Stones, and performed at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. He first started out in the band Vance Arnold and the Avengers in 1963, then to Joe Cocker Big Blues in 1964, and then The Grease Band in 1966. Although Joe Cocker made a career out of doing covers, his distinct voice put him on the music map in the late sixties. The late seventies saw a drop off that map, but Cocker made a comeback in the eighties and nineties with the hits “You Are So Beautiful”, “Up Where We Belong” (from the soundtrack to An Officer and A Gentleman), and “Unchain My Heart”. Cocker played the 1994 Woodstock Festival as one of the only alumni to do so. He appeared in the 2007 film Across the Universe and he currently lives in Colorado on a ranch with his family.
