John Scofield is a prominent American jazz guitarist and composer. He played and eventually collaborated with such stars as Billy Cobham, Miles Davis, Medeski Martin & Wood, and other artists. Scofield is also well versed in jazz fusion, soul, blues, funk, and other forms of contemporary music.
Talking about the musician’s favorite equipment, it can be mentioned that John Scofield is endorsed by Ibanez guitars. His signature guitar, the JSM100, is based on his stage and recording guitar, according to him, one of the best semi-acoustics that have been ever made. During his tours the artist strikes his fans with his enormous energy and the magnificent compositions. He released his recent album in 2005. It is called That's What I Say: John Scofield Plays the Music of Ray Charles (Verve Records).
John Scofield has collaborated with many famous artists to create some captivating melodies. They include Out Louder (2006 - Medeski, Scofield, Martin and Wood - Indirecto), Live at the Warfield (2006 - Phil Lesh and Friends - Image), Saudades (2006 - Trio Beyond - ECM), and many more.
Scofield is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Jazz Department of Steinhardt School of Education (at New York University).
At the end of September 2006, John Scofield released Out Louder, which is his second collaborative effort album with jazz trio Medeski Martin & Wood.
In the summer of 2006, the musician began his tour with the latest incarnation of Phil Lesh and Friends, which is a progressive jam band that features Trey Anastasio and Joan Osborne
