Folk rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jonatha Brooke began her career in the ‘80s. She was one of the members of the folk duo The Story. She started her solo career only on mid ‘90s. The singer is famous for combining elements of folk, rock, and pop in her music. Her compositions are notable for their complex harmonies and poignant lyrics.
Jonatha Brooke’s first solo album Plumb was released shortly after she parted from The Story. Soon 10 Cent Wings followed, which marked a shift from the folk and pop style to more of a radio-friendly one. The shift continued onto her next release Steady Pull. It was a more rock-influenced recording that was co-produced by Brooke and well known studio man Bob Clearmountain. The latter has worked together with such famous artists as The Rolling Stones, The Corrs, Bryan Adams, Hall & Oates, and others.
In 2004, Back in the Circus followed. It featured a lot of new material along with covers of compositions by James Taylor, The Beach Boys, and Alan Parsons Project. The record was also released in the United Kingdom in 2005. In summer of 2006, Jonatha Brooke released a combo CD and DVD entitled Live in New York.
Brooke’s next studio album will be released in April 2007 and will be entitled Careful What You Wish For (released in via Rykodisc distribution). Its first single with the same title has been released on iTunes.
