JVC began its sponsorship of jazz festival in 1984. That year it was the sponsor of festivals in Germany, France, England, and of the legendary Newport Jazz Festival. Over the past twenty years, the JVC Jazz Festivals have been held almost worldwide and have presented over 47 thousand individual musicians, including many legendary performers of the 20th century. The most famous names include Sting, B.B. King, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Dizzy Gillespie, Dianne Reeves, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Ray Charles Wayne Shorter, David Sanborn, Chuck Berry, Diana Krall, Sonny Rollins, Wind & Fire, Nancy Wilson, Wynton Marsalis, Oscar Peterson, Cassandra Wilson, Herbie Hancock, Earth, and many more.
