About Keith Urban

Aussie native Keith Urban grew up on the classic country albums his parents loved to listen to when he was a child. He fell in love with rock-n-roll as a teenager, though, especially admiring Dire Straits. He developed his early guitar-playing skills while learning Dire Straits albums note for note, and still shows a rock influence in his country songs.

Urban started a country band in Australia in 1988, but moved to Nashville after charting four number one hits in his home country. Urban quickly became known in Nashville for his skilled guitar-playing and played on Garth Brooks album Double Live and The Dixie Chicks Fly.

His self- titled debut album was released in 2000 on Captiol Records. It gradually got radio airplay for Its a Love Thing, Your Everything, and For the Grace of God, which went to number one. Two singles from his next album, 2002s Golden Road, hit number one as well.

Urban headlined his first arena tour, sponsored by CMT, in 2004. He was named the CMAs Entertainer of the Year in 2005. In late September he released a DVD, Livin Right Now, which he recorded in December of 2004. He can be seen live at the New York State Fair on August 25.
