Singer and songwriter, Melissa Ferrick first received a great deal of publicity in 1991, when, at the last minute, she replaced the opening act on Morrissey’s tour. Ferrick’s emergence onto the national scene happened around 1993, when the singer released her first studio album entitled Massive Blur under a deal with Atlantic Records.
The first record released on Ferrick’s own label was titled Valentine Heartache. Her lyrics can be characterized by confessional and sometimes political content. The singer mostly accompanies herself on the guitar, which Melissa often plays with complicated riffs and rapid fingerpicking. Ferrick has experimented with a range of accompaniments, like brass instruments. Ferrick is famous for her great guitar play, even if critics do not always approve of her skills as a songwriter.
Ferrick is a constantly touring performer, who has great relationship with her devoted fans. Melissa on stage is claimed to be a completely different experience to listening to her studio records. The musician plays in small to middle sized clubs and dozens of popular music Festivals.
