History of Montgomery Gentry

Starting out in their first band called Early Tymz, Eddie Montgomery, his brother John Michael, and Troy Gentry all sang together and lived in Kentucky. John Michael left the group and now has a wonderful solo career. Eddie and Troy were left so they decided to make a go of it. They formed Montgomery Gentry in 1999.

Their lyrics consist of real life happenings and they are sung with soul and heart behind them. “Tattoos and Scars” became their first album that had five hits come from it in 1999. They started out with a hell rising in your face kind of music and they have recently gone back to their roots with just good old country music. It must have been a good thing for them, because they won the Country Music Award for Vocal Duo in 2000. They started out opening for Brooks and Dunn in 2001, followed by Kenny Chesney in 2002 and 2003. They have performed in the last nine years to may sell out crowds and estimate their concerts have been seen by millions of fans. Also during 2001 to 2003, they released two more albums. These include “Carrying On” and “My Town.” They collaborated with Tracy Byrd on one of his songs, “The Truth About Men.”

After all that, they still found time to go overseas and entertain the troops at war. Traveling to Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq, they saw many life changing experiences. They couldn't believe the sacrifice of each of the men and women in both military forces. When they arrived back in the US, they started on their next album. They recorded two more: “You Do Your Thing” in 2004 and “Some People Change” in 2007. These both went platinum on the charts and albums sold worldwide. In between those two, they did a greatest hits album called “Something To Be Proud Of: The Best 1999 – 2005. This album went gold in copies sold worldwide.
