Mumford & Sons stood tall for all British folk rockers by claiming two Grammy Awards for their second studio album, “Babel,” including the main prize of the night, Album of the Year. There’s no doubt that the awards represent the peak of their success to date, but even without the accolades the band has set themselves up for a pretty great 2013. Right now, the indie quartet is finishing off the East Coast stint of their solo tour with a huge show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY (2/12), as well as stops at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA (2/13-14); and Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ (2/16-17). After that, Mumford & Sons will kick off the 2013 Gentlemen of the Road Tour, which will bring the band and a slew of incredible acts to venues around North America that usually don’t get to host the world’s biggest acts.
The plan is to have various acts join Mumford & Sons on Friday and Saturday stops in each city, with one major band headlining Fridays and Mumford and Sons on Saturdays. It's all set to kick off in England in July, followed by the first North American stop at Norfolk County Fairgrounds in Simcoe, ON, on August 23rd. From there, the bands will make stops at Troy Memorial Stadium in Troy, OH (8/30-31); Cottonwood Flats in Guthrie, OK (9/6-7); and St. Augustine Francis Field in St. Augustine, FL (9/13-14). Some of the incredible bands set for the journey are fun., Alabama Shakes, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Vaccines, Mystery Jets, Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, Very Best Sound System, Hey Rosetta!, Dan Mangan, Willy Mason, Half Moon Run, Those Darlins, and Bear’s Den. The Sept. 25 release of “Babel,” the sophomore installment from folk rockers Mumford and Sons, was in a word: huge. Opening day sales saw the album move 600,000 copies, making it the biggest debut of 2012. The feat is all the more impressive considering the year saw new releases from competition such as pop phenoms One Direction and Justin Bieber, and country stars Jason Aldean and Taylor Swift.
Following a brief series of shows leading up to the album release, Mumford and Sons scheduled a pair of shows at the Hollywood Bowl in November, followed by stint in the U.K. throughout December. In February they're back on the road on the East Coast with shows in Boston, Brooklyn, Virginia, and New Jersey, followed by spring shows that take them all across Europe. The West London folk rock favorites were one of the biggest stories in music last year as their debut album, Sigh No More, took hold of music lovers in both the UK and US.
