Mummers are people that engage in colourful street parades. The word ‘Mummer' was derived from the German language and means “disguise “. The 7-mile parade starts early in the morning and lasts till end of day. Mummers are categorized into four: String Bands, Comics, Fancies and Fancy Brigades. The String Bands are marching bands comprising saxophones, string basses, banjos, drums, accordions etc. The String Bands have evolved into highly choreographed, professionally dressed mummers.
