Neil Young Background Information

Neil Young (Neil Percival Young) is a famous Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist and film director. Neil was born in Toronto in 1945. Having experimented much with different music genres during his long and varied music career, Neil stopped on folk-esque acoustic rock and electric-charged hard-rock. Young’s performance is defined by thoughtful lyrics, distinctive guitar work, and signature nasal tenor. The singer usually accompanies himself on several different instruments – including piano and harmonica. Of course, since his genre is hard rock, he never gives up his hammer-on acoustic guitar and his electric guitar. Recently, Young has started to incorporate elements from newer styles of music, such as industrial, alternative country and grunge. It is Young’s particular manner of playing the grudge that has brought him to the title of "the godfather of grudge.

Young has recorded the total of over 40 albums produced a plead of rock’s most famous song writers and performers, including Bufallo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the Stills-Young Band.

In 1994, Young was nominated for an Oscar for his song “Philadelphia” which was used as a soundtrack in the film “Philadelphia”. However, the award was finally given to Bruce Springsteen for his song "Streets of Philadelphia" from the same film. Apart from that Young has a number of awards for his unique talent both in the States and Canada.

Now, in his elderly years, Young is still active and continues his music career. Recently he played his new album Chrome Dreams II at Reprise Records In 2006, Paste Magazine ranked Young number 2 in the "Greatest Living Songwriters" list behind Bob Dylan.

Having a “young” last name, Neil still remains young spiritually and continues to bring much joy with his charming tunes and incomparable vocal talents to all his faithful fans.
