Newsboys Background Information

A very popular Christian pop band from Australia that has captured audiences all over the world with its most adorable Christian pop songs and albums is the Newsboys. The Newsboys burst into the music scene in the year 1985 and since then the band has been gaining a lot of fan following all over the world. Their genre of music includes Christian pop and rock and the Newsboys have recorded for labels like Inpop, Virgin Records, Sparrow, Refuge, EMI CMG and Star Song. The founder members of the Newsboys band are: Peter Furler the drummer, John James the vocalist, guitarist George Peredikis and bassist Sean Taylor.

The band stared with the name The News and later had to change their name to The Newsboys while touring America in 1987, as there was another band group in America with the name The News. The band released their first album named “Read All About” in 1988 and came up with two more albums “Hell is for Wimps” and “Boys will be Boyz” in the following two years. It was only in their forth album that the band carved a niche for themselves in the Christian music scene with the title track of the album becoming a super duper hit and Furler became the songwriter for the band. Their fifth album released in 1995 was their first smash hit album and fetched them the Dove Awards for the “Rock Album of the Year” as well as the “Rock Recorded Song of the Year”.

The Newsboys hit number “Shine” was rated in the top ten list of the 100 all time greatest Christian songs collection by the CCM Magazine in 2006. The Newsboys third Dove Award for “Recorded Music Package of the Year” came their way in 1996 for their album “Take Me to Your Leader”. The Newsboys have been releasing a new album every year and have been embarking on subsequent world wide tours to popularize their songs. Peter Furler, Duncan Phillips, Paul Colman and Jeff Frankenstein are the current members of the Newsboys band.
