The member of the band Urie said that the group believes the song and video were a bit overplayed. He also stated that I Write Sins Not Tragedies was not the only song they have written. The video for the song contains scenes with Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque in a spooky circus-wedding theme. The video debuted at #10 on the Total Request Live chart, bringing the album to the top of the Billboard independent chart and to #13 on the Billboard 200 in July 2006.
