Pearl Jam is a rock band from America. It was founded in 1990 and became one of the most popular rock bands in the United States in 1990s. Nowadays there are 5 members in the group: Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Eddie Vedder and Matt Cameron.

Their history starts in 1983 when Green River was organized. It was one of the first grunge bands in Seattle. In 1987 the band broke up and its former members Gossard and Ammend formed Mother Love Bone with Andrew Wood. Their first album was released in 1990 under the name Apple but Wood died from overdose in March of the same year and did not see it.

1990 was the end of Mother Love Bone. Gossard and Ament met Mccready and began playing in three. Later Mat Cameron joined them and this became Temple Of The Dog. Several years after, the group signed a contract with Epic Records. The bands debut album was released on August 27, 1991 under the name Ten. It gave birth to such hits as: Even Flow, Alive,and Black. With the success of the first album popularity came to the group. The arenas where they played were full of fans and tickets for the concerts were selling in enormous quantities. They were ranked on a par with such grunge monsters as Nirvana and Soundgarden.

Their new album VS appeared in 1993 and shortly after the release set a record for copies sold in the firs week, 950.000. The next years album Vitalogy appeared to be the second quickest selling. 877.000 copies were sold in the firs week. In 1994 after Dave Abbruzzese had been fired Jack Irons joined the band as a new drummer.

The next several years the band spent calm, their popularity declined. But in 1998 the new album Yield was released and became platinum in the United States with nearly 1.500.000 copies sold. Their song Last Kiss went a mega hit. The same year Jack Irons left Pearl Jam because of health problems and Matt Cameron replaced him. Binaural the first studio album with Matt Cameron was produced in 2000. Pearl Jam made their Europe tour in 2000 and the same year started the tour over the U.S.

In 2002 Riot Act was released including such hits as I Am Mine and Save You In 2006 they signed a contract with J Records Label and released the latest album Pearl Jam. The same year the band wan an Esky for Esquire's 2006 Esky Music Awards.
