2008 will see the fourth year of the running of 'Premios a la Musica Latina', an awards ceremony dedicated exclusively to the different forms of Latina music that have become popularised in the last fifty years. This year's event will take place in the spectacular Majestic Theatre San Antonio, in Texas and the venue is suitably ostentatious for such a colorful, larger-than-life event. The affair will be hosted this year by the gorgeous Roxana Martinez and co-hosted by Raul Gonzalez and there will be a cornucopia of Latin performances from such veterans as Yolanda de Rio, Michael Sagrado, as well as the glamorous Priscila y sus Balas de Plata.
Many branches of Latin Music, as we know it ,will feature. To be heard, and importantly, watched, will be music forms like Tejana, Mariachi and Traditional and Progressive Conjunto, each strain having evolved from different parts of Central and South America and the Pacific and Caribbean Islands. Each of these categories is awarded a variety of 'Best of's; for example , Female and Male Vocalist, Musical Arrangement, Group etc. There is even a special prize for Best Religious Group!
A sister company of the TV Network Univision broadcasts the event each year and it can also be listened to on a number of Latin Music radio stations in the Southern United States and Mexico and is a treat for anyone who has an interest or passion for the roots and development of Hispanic music.
