Ralph Stanley Background Information

Ralph Stanley was awarded with an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. Well known worldwide of bluegrass music by the popular title "Dr. Ralph Stanley" the musician was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor twice, in 1992 and in 2000. He became the first person of the new millennium, who was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

In 2006, Ralph Stanley was awarded the National Medal of Arts. His work was featured in the 2000 film entitled O Brother, Where Art Thou, where he sings "O Death". With this song, the musician was awarded with the 2002 Grammy in the category of Best Male Country Vocal Performance.

Ralph Stanley created a unique banjo playing style that is sometimes called "Stanley Style". It evolved from Scruggs style three finger. Recently, Ralph Stanley joined Josh Turner in a duet on Turner's 2007 single "Me and God".
