About REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon first started as a cover band down in University of Illinois’ Champaign playing bars and house parties. The band’s popularity grew in the Midwest and one concert caught the attention of producer Paul Leka who flew them out to the East Coast to record a demo. REO Speedwagon was signed by Epic Records and released their first self-titled album in 1971. After success in the seventies, the band switched from hard rock to pop rock and in 1980 finally hit mainstream success with their album Hi Infidelity. The album contained their number one hit (and most popular song) “Keep On Loving You”. The album stayed on the music charts for 65 weeks, spending three months at number one. They released a couple more albums but by the end of the eighties their popularity had declined. The nineties didn’t have anything better to offer either. The new millennium saw a revival in classic rock bands and in 2000 REO Speedwagon teamed up with Styx to go on tour. They have also joined Journey on the stage. Currently REO Speedwagon tour when they can in the casino and state fair circuit, but touring nonetheless. They do team up with other bands for revival shows.
