Rod Stewart, whose full name is Roderick David Stewart, is a British singer who was born on January 10, 1945 in Highgate, London. Stewart is the youngest of five brothers and sisters, whose parents were owners of a newsagent's shop.

Stewart used to be a member of the Jeff Beck Group and the Faces band before starting the solo career. His present girlfriend is a model Penny Lancaster.

Having dedicated about fifty of years to music, Rod was astonishingly successful during certain periods of his life and a number of his singles became popular all over the globe. In the UK only, his fans could enjoy 62 hit singles, 24 out of them reached the Top 10. Besides, six of Stewarts hits went all the way to number one. It is assessed, that Rods album and single sales account for more than 200 million, therefore he is rightfully considered one of the best-selling music artists.

During the fifties and sixties, Rod's main interests lay in the field of playing football. He played for some time as an apprentice soccer player for Brentford FC. However, he soon realized that he was actually more interested in music and decided to quit sports in order to start a musical career. The folk singer Wizz Jones and Rod Stewart went on a tour around Europe, singing to tourists for money. As soon as their passports expired, Stewart and his friend were deported for wandering.

After he came back, Rods musical preferences changed, and he joined the Birmingham based R & B group Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions as a vocalist and blues harp player.

Quite soon, rock and roll became popular and drew Stewarts closest attention. It was high time to join a new band called The Jeff Beck Group. The group Faces, although quite successful, was the next step, which gradually took Rod to the beginning of his solo career. Tonight's The Night, Hot Legs, Do Ya Think I am Sexy and This Old Heart of Mine were only some of the songs astonishingly popular with the fans.

Stewarts most recent musical interests lie in the field of the 1930's and 1940's pop standards from the Great American Songbook, composed by such songwriters as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin. The songs became very successful.
