The History of Styx
Styx is a well known American band. It was widely popular in the 1970s as well as the 1980s. The band was formed in 1961. Initially it was called "the tradewinds". They changed their name when they started recording for wooden nickel records. The members of the band include: Dennis Deyoung, John Panozzo, John Curulewski and Glen Burtnik.
They debuted with Styx in 1972 and went on to release many albums. Styx was followed by Styx II, The serpent is rising, Man of miracles, Equinox, Crystal Ball, The grand illusion, Pieces of eight, Cornerstone,Kilroy was here,Cyclorama, Brave new world and Edge of the century.
more There are many hit tracks that have been credited to the band. These are: "Come Sail Away", "Babe", "Lady", "Suite Madame Blue", "Mr. Roboto", and "Renegade.
The albums that they released in between 1977 to 1981 have been declared multi-platinum. The albums are: Paradise Theatre, Cornerstone, Pieces of eight, and RIAA: The Grand illusion. Till 2006, according to RIAA (Recording industry association of India), the band ranked #127. Till 2006 the band had 17.5 million records sold in United States alone. In 2007 the hit "100 years from now" by Dennis DeYoung ranked #1 in Quebec's top 100. The band has 8 billboard top ten singles to its credit. Seven of these have been sung by Dennis DeYoung and one of them has been recorded by Tommy Shaw. Two singles of the band has sold one million copies. These are: "Mr.Roboto" and "Babe". The band has bagged the lifetime achievement award from IEBA in Tennessee.
