The Killers is a rock band based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The group was organized in 2002 and consists of the vocalist and keyboard player Brandon Flowers, the guitarist and vocalist Dave Keuning, the bassist and vocalist Mark Stoermer, and the drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. The first album of the Killers Hot Fuss was released in 2004. The next album Sam's Town was released in the United Kingdom and in North America.
Before playing together as one group, all of the members had different jobs. Brandon Flowers had previously dropped out of the University and worked as a bellhop at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
David Keuning had also left the Kirkwood Community College, later the University of Iowa, and came to live in Las Vegas in 2000. He had a job at the Banana Republic store, which he hated and quit with the arrival of a new manager. Mark Stoermer was a medical courier and had to distribute different medicines while being a student of philosophy at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. Ronnie Vannucci studied classical percussion at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, working as a photographer at the Little Chapel and as a pedicab driver at the Desert Passage mall in the Aladdin Hotel.
Before the Killers became popular all over the world, they performed in a small club in Denver, Colorado. When all the members of the band were recruited, and the number of their songs grew, the band started attracting attention from several local agents and major label scouts, as well as the UK representatives of the Warner Bros. The Warner Bros representative took the demo to England and showed it to the owner of a UK indie label. The Killers signed a contract by the end of the summer and settled in England.

Brandon Flowers often states that the sound of many songs of the band is very typical of that of Las Vegas, a city where everything has to flash.
