The National Announces 2013 Tour and New Album

Since the band released their acclaimed fifth studio album, “High Violet,” back in 2010, fans of The National have been patiently waiting for news of more material and a fresh tour schedule. Thankfully, that time has finally come. The heralded indie rock quartet announced they will be releasing their new album in May, and there’s a brand new tour in place to go along with it. The shows are set to start on May 16 at State Theater in Ithaca, N.Y., and from there they will play nine concerts around the eastern portion of North America until mid-June. The National are set to hit up some incredible venues along the way, including shows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. (6/5), Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. (6/6), and Stage AE in Pittsburgh, Pa. (6/11).

Sure to keep good company, The National will be joined by stellar acts like Dirty Projectors and Youth Lagoon on select nights. And in addition to the headlining tour, The National will also make their presence felt at two of the country’s most exciting music festivals. From June 13-16, the band will join headliners Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Mumford and Sons at the 2013 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn. And on June 14, the band will make their way home for a very special headlining appearance at the 2013 Bunbury Music Festival at Sawyer Point in Cincinnati, Ohio. The National tickets for upcoming dates are on sale now.

The bands last shows in New York were a sold-out affair that consisted of six consecutive nights at famed the Beacon Theater, which included very special appearances by members of Arcade Fire and Trey Anastasio. This time around the opener will be the lo-fi, dream pop indie rocker Youth Lagoon, whose second album, Wondrous Bughouse is due to hit shelves on March 5th.
