The Northern Trust Open is a golf tournament, held annually in February. It makes part of the PGA Tour (the Professional Golfers Association). The tournament takes place in Pacific Palisades, CA. The Nissan Open is usually held on the course of Riviera Country Club. The major sponsor of the tournament is the Nissan Company. The overall prize equals 5.1 million US dollars, the winner gets 918 thousand.

Before the Second World War the Northern Trust Open led a nomad existence, because it changed the course several times. The first game was played in 1926 in LA at Los Angeles Country Club. The following year the tournament moved to El Caballero Country Club, situated in Tarzana, CA. In 1928 it was held at Wilshire Country Club, LA, and in 1929 and 1930 Riviera Country Club became the home for the Nissan Open. From 1931 to 1933 the tournament was held again at Wilshire and Hillcrest Country Clubs. In 1934-1936 it returned to LA. From 1937 till 1939 was played at Griffith Park. The Second World War intervened into the flow of the Northern Trust Open, and in 1943 the event was not held.
