It's not a little known fact that it's been exactly 100 years since the Chicago Cubs won their first and last World Series. Ask any Cubs fan and they'll instantly (and lamentably) rifle off the same fact. So 100 is important in that respect. But the Cubs can shatter through another restraint held by the number 100. The Cubs are in the position to win 100 games in a season for the first time since their 1935 team that went 100-54, unfortunately losing in the World Series to the Detroit Tigers. It will be difficult. They will need to win 23 more games in order to hit that mark. There are only 25 games left. Of these 25 games, 16 are away games. It seems highly improbably but if anyone can surprise the naysayers it would be the Cubs. On the road, especially since the all-star break, the Cubs have been incredible hot on the road, with a 14-5 record. But to be nearly flawless, with only the wiggle room to lose two at home or away, will prove exceedingly difficult regardless of statistics. The Cubs begin tonight with a match against the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field. A well-rested Zambrano will face off against Brandon Backe at 7:05 CDT.
