What he thought was just his arm heating up last Tuesday in a match against Houston was actually rotator cuff tendinitis in Zambrano's right shoulder. After 86 pitches thrown, 3 runs allowed, and five innings of play, Carlos Zambrano excused himself from the game because of shoulder discomfort. The Cubs' team orthopedic specialist Stephen Gryzlo did a physical exam on the right hander's shoulder and an MRI revealed tendinitis. For the Cubs organization, remedying their ace pitcher is the number one concern so he's been placed on anti-inflammatory medication and will not throw any pitches for a week. They do expect him to be able to start in the September 14th matchup against the Astros in Houston. In the meanwhile, Zambrano's next scheduled start date (September 7th against Cincinnati) has been given to lefty Sean Marshall. Tonight, the Cubs begin a three-game stand in Cincinnati at 6:10 CDT with Ted Lilly taking the mound against Bronson Arroyo.
