A Chance to Clear Their Heads

The Cubs should be preparing for their first game against the Houston Astros tonight, but instead they are en route towards Chicago due to Hurricane Ike, which is tossing and churning in the Gulf of Mexico and expected to pass through Texas. So instead of finishing up their last three games of a 10-day, 9-game road trip, the Chicago Cubs will have to wait until Sunday when they will most likely play a double header matchup. It will be a nice break for the Cubs, however. So far in September, they are playing very un-Cub-like (or perhaps they are playing more like the Cubs that history knows best). They have gone 3-6 so far in September and have not been hitting too terribly well. A two-day break may be just what they need to clear their heads and prepare for the final stretch of games before the playoffs. At this point, the next Cubs game is tentatively scheduled at 1:05 pm CDT this Sunday in Houston. Provided that Hurricane Ike does not linger or cause too much destruction, the show will go on. Jason Marquis of the Cubs will look for his 11th win against Astros pitcher Randy Wolf.
