Brandon Phillips had three hits with a HR and four RBI, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game at 3, and another rally in the 10th to tie it at 4, the Cincinnati Reds were unable to overcome the Pirates in a wild 11inning game on Tuesday. In top of the 11th Ken Griffey Jr. was unable to make a diving grab on a line drive by Jack Wilson, giving Wilson an RBI triple and setting up an RBI single by Nate McClouth that gave the Pirates a 6-4 lead. The Reds were not through yet. In the bottom of the 11th they managed to score one more run on a Jerry Hairston Jr. RBI single before Romulo Sanchez was able to retire Corey Patterson on a fly ball to end the game.
