The Kansas City Royals were frustrated by the knuckleball of Tim Wakefield all night long, as they lost 8-2 to the Boston Red Sox. Wakefield pitched six innings allowing just four hits and two runs (1 earned) while striking out six. It also didn't help that the Red Sox offense exploded for eight runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. While the Royals finished the night with eight hits, they had no answer for Boston as they lost 2 of 3 in the series. Ross Gload had two hits and two RBI on the night but that was about the only bright spot for Kansas City. The game was close until the sixth inning, when the Red Sox added to their one run lead and then put the game away in their next at bat. The Royals will look to get back on track when they welcome the Minnesota Twins for a three game series that starts on Friday.
