At present, The Minnesota Twins are currently 1 1/2 games behind the Chicago White Sox for the A.L. Central division title and in a similarly heated race with the Boston Red Sox for the wild card playoff berth. The Minnesota Twins have been playing inspired baseball this seasonand much of that is credited to the young players on squad. Manager Ron Gardenhire credits a lot of the success over the past four months to his young roster. While many experts predicted that this young Twins team would eventually propel the club into the playoffs in the futures, they never expected it to happen this quickly. Says Gardenhire of his teams youth, "We have a lot of young players, but that's what makes this team exciting...it's fun to watch all these young players get after the game and have big moments now." Minnesota is poised for a very big moment coming up soon, a playoff berth. Perhaps youth will help carry the Twins through the postseason whereas the older players may tire after a long, 162-game season.
Tonight the Twins want to bounce back after a loss to the A's last night. Game 2 of a 4-game series starts at 9:05 p.m. CDT. Kevin Slowey pitches opposite Dan Meyer of the A's.
