The game usually comes up on a Tuesday. No games are played on the preceding Monday and the subsequent Wednesday.
The first edition of the competition was held at the Chicago World Fair in 1933. Arch Ward who was then a sport editor with paper, Chicago tribune was the originator of the competition. The game was initially planned as a one time event, but with the success of the event it ended up as an annual one. In 1962, Arch Wards contribution to baseball was recognized by Major Baseball League and a trophy was named after him. The “Arch Ward Trophy” is won by the player voted as the MVP of the yearly All Star Game.
The league winner of the MLB Legends match is given home advantage for the World Series to be played later in the season. This has been the case since 2003. The last edition of the All Star match was in San Francisco at the AT&T Park in 2007. In that game, the team representing the American League was victorious and thus had home advantage during the World Series later that year. The American League has won the 6 past consecutive editions of the MLB Futures and Legends Game. less
