The New York Mets celebrated a big win Tuesday night as they beat the Florida Marlins 4-1. The Mets jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning off an RBI double by David Wright. But the Marlins wasted little time tying the game in the bottom half of the first on an RBI double by Josh Willingham. After both teams went scoreless the next few innings, Carlos Beltran hit a two out RBI single in the 6th inning to put the Mets up 2-1. New York got big insurance runs in the 8th inning when Carlos Delgado hit a 2-run blast. The Mets pitching was able to hold off the Marlins, as Oliver Perez pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 3 walks and the 1 run while striking out 5. Aaron Heilman pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief work and Billy Wagner closed it out with a perfect 9th inning. The Mets will look to take the series and add to their lead in the NL East when they take on the Marlins in the series finale Wednesday night.
