The New York Mets managed to hang on Tuesday night as they beat the San Diego Padres 6-5. The Mets took a 6-2 lead into the top of the 9th inning, but the lead quickly shrunk as Jody Gerut's three run homer made it a 1 run game. With Met's closer Billy Wagner going on the DL a few hours before the game, New York had to use a make shift bullpen that was shaky. Aaron Heilman gave up the homer and it was Scott Schoenewies who got the final out to close it out for the Mets. Mike Pelfrey earned the win as he pitched 6 2/3rds innings allowing nine hits and two runs while striking out three. Fernando Tatis was the man of the night as he belted two home runs and drove in four runs for New York. Both teams will square off in the second game of the series on Wednesday night.
