Meet the Mets. Meet the Mets. Come right out and meet the [first place] Mets. The New York Mets have been quite the peculiar baseball team this year. Sweeping a great team one series then falling flat on their faces against a statistically inferior one. After hopes were set extremely high in the beginning of the season, the Mets struggled (and that's being euphemistic). Losses came a lot faster than wins. But then June 10th came and with it a new and more focused Mets team. Since that day, the New York Mets have posted the best MLB record in the entire league. How? Manage Marion Anderson presented the team with a simple formula: There were 100 games left to make repairs and turn the team around... he asked them to win 62 of the 100 and they would be in good playoff standing. That's a .620 win percentage. To date, the Mets have achieved a .628 record since June 10th. Now, with 22 games left in their season, all they need to do is to win 13. Simple right? Tonight the Mets begin a huge series with divisional rivals (and close second) Philadelphia Phillies in New York. If they can sweep Philadelphia they will be in great standing to win the division, which they are currently leading by three games. Mike Pelfrey will pitch tonight for the Mets while Brett Myers takes the mound for the Phillies. Game time is 7:10 EDT.
