Sidney Ponson, one of the Yankees leaders and veteran pitchers, turned in one of the worst performances of his life in his Thursday night match with the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing 7 runs in only two innings. After he left, the Blue Jay shellacking continued, as no one on the Yankees pitching staff could get their game together. When the final out was made, New York had lost 14-3, just another of the many disappointing games for the pinstripes this season. With this loss, the Yankees move to six games behind the Wild Card spot in the American League, but hope seems to be fading fast. However, with 35 games left manager Joe Girardi has not yet given up hope. Tonight (8/22), the Yankees begin a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles before hosting Toronto for three more games at home.
