Oakland Athletics Spring Training

2008 was a rough year for the Oakland Athletics. Injuries and trades changed their lineups and rotations almost continuously and they could never get into a serious rhythm. They have made some important transactions during the offseason, acquiring Jason Giambi from the Yankees and Matt Holliday from Colorado. Giambi will be the A’s star batting DH. Holliday is one of the best pitchers they could have right now, though he will be a free agent after this season and a trade could come at any time. Three starting pitchers from last year were traded away to make room on the roster for younger players. Orlando Cabrera and Nomar Garciaparra will help improve the A’s infield situation, backing up a rather young pitching rotation. General manager Billy Beane has rolled the dice once again this year, going with a younger team. Last year, the team used 21 rookies over the course of the season. This year they will probably use fewer, but the A’s will probably start off the year with lots of energy and hopefully they can harness that energy to win some games. Keep up on the Athlteics schedule this season and get access to some of the cheapest Atheltics baseball tickets available for 2009.
