Myers and Utley power Phillies past Nationals

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 Tuesday night, thanks to Brett Myers and Chase Utley.  Myers pitched 7 dominant innings allowing just 4 hits and an unearned run while striking out 2.  Utley provided the offense for the Phillies when he hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning.  It was Utley’s 26th home run of the year and was enough to help Philadelphia top the Nationals.  Washington managed to score in the 8th inning when an error put two runners on with no outs.  A sacrifice bunt led to runners moving up and an RBI groundout by Willie Harris.  But the Phillies escaped the inning and Brad Lidge pitched a perfect 9th inning to close it out for Philadelphia. These teams will face one another in the 2nd of 3 games Wednesday night.
