The Pittsburgh Pirates managed just one run against the Arizona Diamondbacks who won 3-1 Tuesday night. Brandon Webb was in total control and had a shutout going until the Pirates managed a run in the 9th inning and threatened with two runners on. But Webb struck out the final two batters to pick up the win for Arizona. The Diamondbacks got their runs in the 3rd inning from a Chris Young 2-run homer and in the 8th inning from a Conor Jackson RBI double. Pittsburgh did manage nine hits on the night, but could not string runs together to beat the D-Backs. Zach Duke took a tough loss as he pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs and one walk while striking out six. The Pirates will look to avoid a sweep when they take on the Diamondbacks in the series finale on Wednesday.
