Padres rally comes up short

The San Diego Padres came up short Tuesday night as they fell 6-5 to the New York Mets.  The Padres trailed 6-2 heading into the ninth inning, before Jody Gerut hit a 3-run homer off Aaron Heilman to bring San Diego within one.  But the Mets make shift bullpen was able to close it out for New York and get the victory.  Gerut also had three hits on the night for San Diego who fell to 43-70 on the year.  Chris Young started for the Padres pitching 5 1/3rd allowing one hit, two runs and five walks while striking out five. He received a no decision as Mike Adams was hit with the loss.  The Padres did manage 11 hits as a team but that wasn't enough.  They will look to get back on track in the second game of this series Wednesday night.
