Cardinals blank PhilliesThe St. Louis Cardinals got solid pitching and just enough run support to blank the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 Tuesday night. Joel Pineiro pitched seven 6 1/3 strong innings allowing 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. The Cardinals bullpen did the rest as they allowed only one hit through 2 2/3 innings. Ryan Franklin picked up his 12th save of the season with a near perfect 9th inning. Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel provided the support on the night, each hitting solo home runs of Phillies starter Cole Hamels, who took the loss after also pitching well. Game three of this four game series will take place Wednesday night with St. Louis already taking the first 2 games. |
