As has become the norm when it comes to the East Division of the American League, the race to the top will be quite a battle once again this season. Despite the challenging slate and some bumps in the road, the Tampa Bay Rays are just five games out of first as of May 28, with several players on track to contribute to a winning season. With last year’s Cy Young Award winner, David Price, on the disabled list for the first time in his five-year career, the Rays have relied on consistent offensive production to key the attack. James Loney and Evan Longoria have been a solid one-two punch for the squad, as Loney leads in batting average (.335) and on-base percentage (.398), while Longoria has tallied 62 hits and 107 bases through games as of May 27.
A bevy of games remain in the season to see Tampa Bay in action, so scan the listings of Rays tickets to secure a seat at Tropicana Stadium this season. Following a road stint that will take the team to Miami, Cleveland, and Detroit, the Rays will be back at home to host the Baltimore Orioles (June 7-9), Boston Red Sox (June 10-12), and Kansas City Royals (June 13-16).
Last year the Rays finished 3rd in the AL East, though their 90-72 record was nothing to be ashamed of. This year, the team is hoping they can bash their way back into the playoffs with plenty of new additions that should help them contend in a vicious AL East. So far, the Rays have added to their pitching staff with Juan Carlos Oviedo and Jamey Wright; brought in batting and defensive help with outfielders Wil Myers and Jason Bourgeois; and shored up the defense with infielders James Loney, Yunel Escobar, and Kelly Johnson. Though the squad lost some key players in the offseason, most notably James Shields, B.J. Upton, and Carlos Pena, Manager Joe Maddon always has this team uber-competitive. Once again we can expect the Rays to be in it through the end.
Looking at the 2013 Rays schedule, the team is for an opening day showdown against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, April 2nd. It will be a great April for fans hoping to catch the Rays at Tropicana Field early on, as Tampa Bay is set to invite squads like the Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics, and New York Yankees all in the opening month. Star pitcher David Price will be looking to make it back-to-back Cy Young Awards, so make sure to purchase your 2013 Tampa Bay Rays tickets to smell the fresh cut grass and experience a fantastic day at the ballpark.
Under the tutelage of AL Manager of the Year Joe Maddon, the Tampa Bay Rays have found a way to make the playoffs in three out of the last four MLB seasons. Despite a limited budget to spend on players, Maddon and general manager Andrew Friedman have been able to keep the pace with the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East. Unlike past seasons, the Rays will have the majority of their top stars reporting for spring training. 2012 Rays tickets will soon be on sale for individual home games at Tropicana Field. A batting order that features B.J. Upton, Evan Longoria, and Ben Zobrist should give AL pitchers fits from opening day through the final game of the season. When you consider the Rays will have enterprising starting pitchers James Shields, Jeremy Hellickson, and David Price back on the mound, another appearance in the MLB playoffs appears a very attainable goal for Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Rays continue to defy the odds. Playing their baseball in the high-powered American League East, the Rays head into every spring spending millions and millions of dollars less then the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Nevertheless, Joe Maddon and the boys have found a way to compete once again this year and are neck-and-neck with the Red Sox for the AL Wild Card. 2011 Rays playoff tickets are already on sale with the race for the final place in the American League postseason expected to go down to the wire. Rays fans should feel confident in their chances as Tampa Bay is riding a hot streak and Boston has been playing poorly for weeks. Evan Longoria is quickly becoming one of the best all-around players in the league and already has experienced the playoffs twice in his short career. Will the pay roll of Boston win out or will Tampa Bay's recipe for success continue to prove skeptics wrong? Stay tuned to see if the Rays can swing their way into October once again.
The 5-1 defeat the Tampa Bay Rays suffered at the hands of Cliff Lee and the Texas Rangers in the ALDS last season left a bitter taste in the mouth Evan Longoria and company. Although the Rays did take home the AL East title for the second time in three years, manager Joe Maddon's players came up short of their World Series dream. Deepening the blow, the Rays had to say goodbye to Carl Crawford, Carlos Pena, Rafael Soriano, and Matt Garza in the offseason. Despite losing some key personnel, Tampa Bay did pick up some intriguing players through free agency and trades. Bringing in AL East veterans like Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, Joe Maddon looks to frustrate the Yankees and Red Sox again this year. Maddon has found ways to outperform New York and Boston regularly throughout his time managing the Rays. Tampa's 57-year-old boss will look to Longoria to lead the team on the field and in the dugout. Place an order for 2011 Rays tickets to support Tampa Bay's journey back to the MLB playoffs.
