Texas Rangers 2009 OutlookThe Texas Rangers are a team that made minimal changes this offseason. The team came in second place in 2008, but was over 20 games behind the division-leading Los Angeles Angels. It will be a bit of a struggle for them to come back from last year. There are some new players joining up this year. Elvis Andrus, 20, is one of their most hopeful prospects and will play at shortstop. To do this, they had to move Michael Young, with his shortstop Gold Glove over to 3^rd base. No one knows exactly how well this will work out but clearly some changes were necessary. In the starting rotation, there were no major changes. This crew had an ERA of 5.51 last year, the worst in the major league. But several of their pitchers were injured or under-performed last year. Brandon McCarthy wasn’t healthy the full year and will need to be careful in order to contribute well to the team. Kevin Millwood and Vicente Padilla are very important parts of the staff and have been training greatly over the offseason. Millwood even lost 20 pounds in order to be healthier over the year. This team needs a good start to get their confidence up and get into a real playing rhythm for 2009. Continue reading the Texas Rangers article here. |
