Toronto Blue Jays 2009 Expectations2008 was a rough year for the Toronto Blue Jays but fans are already starting to show their loyalty by purchasing Blue Jays tickets for the 2009 season. The pitchers that they had anticipated playing a big role during the season either under-performed or were injured during the season. This year, their starting rotation is fluid, because Dustin McGowan will be returning from shoulder surgery in May and may then be inserted into one of the two open starter slots. Their bullpen is decent, with pitchers like B.J. Ryan and Scott Downs, who need to strike batters out more consistently in order to improve this team’s situation greatly. The team’s offense was unfortunately unable to produce last season, with a combined .264 batting average. Not even one player was able to get more than 20 home runs the entire season, tenth out of fourteen American League teams. The lineup of batters hasn’t changed much, but if the players can remain healthy, they will most likely show some improvement. The leadership of manager Cito Gaston was able to bring the team back from the dead in the second half of last season to finish over .500, so hopefully this trend will continue for the Jays. |
