The Cubs finally start to heat up - Aug 07 update

The Chicago Cubs are now second in their division after Milwaukee, however some changes are still being made to the roster.

June 2007 started with the placement of catcher Henry Blanco on the fifteen-day DL, retroactive to May 31, with a cervical herniated disc. The team also selected another catcher Koyie Hill from Iowa. On June 2, 2007, the Cubs activated right-handed pitcher Juan Mateo from the fifteen-day DL and optioned him to Single-A Peoria. The following day, Chicago placed infielder/outfielder Daryle Ward on the fifteen-day DL with a left hip strain. Outfielder Felix Pie was recalled from Triple-A Iowa. On June 6, right-handed pitcher Angel Guzman was placed on the fifteen-day disabled list, retroactive to June 2, with a strained right elbow. The team selected right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher from Double-A Tennessee and transferred right-handed pitcher Roberto Novoa to the sixty-day DL. On June 8, outfielder Cliff Floyd was placed on the bereavement list. Two days later, infielder Mike Fontenot was from Triple-A Iowa. On June 13, the Chicago Cubs recalled left-handed pitcher Clay Rapada from Triple-A Iowa as well as optioned outfielder Matt Murton to Triple-A Iowa.

The present management and coaching staff include Lou Piniella (Manager), Alan Trammell (Bench Coach), Matt Sinatro (1B Coach), Mike Quade (3B Coach), Larry Rothschild (Pitching Coach), Gerald Perry (Hitting coach), and Lester Strode (Bullpen Coach). Currently the Chicago Cubs have .456 (31 wins versus 37 losses) with 15-20 at home and 16-17 on the road.
