Chicago White Sox Season Preview

The Chicago White Sox is the Major League Baseball team playing in Chicago, Illinois; it is in the Central Division of the American League and is currently managed by Ozzie Guillén, who is the former team’s shortstop. It is one of two major league teams based in Chicago; the other one is the Chicago Cubs of the National League.

The White Sox was a frequent pretender during the early 20th century, winning five of the first nineteen league champions’ titles. However, beginning from 1920 and up to 2005 the franchise managed to win only one championship, and only in 2005 the Chicago White Sox won its first World Series Championship since 1917. That year the team finished with stunning 0.611% (99 wins versus only 63 losses). In the following 2006 the team was trying to continue with high results, however it managed to end the season only with the lower 0.556% (90 wins and 72 losses) and became third in the AL Central.

The Chicago White Sox pin hopes on the following 2007 season. On January 12, 2007, the franchise traded right-handed pitcher John Lujan from the Texas Rangers in exchange for catcher Chris Stewart. The latter was expected to be the third in line for Chicago catching position. However, the trade of Chris Stewart makes it obvious that the team is satisfied with the current situation, especially after having signed 31-year old Toby Hall to a two-year deal beginning with the 2007 offseason to back up A.J. Pierzynski.
