About the Anaheim Angels

The Anaheim Angels are a professional baseball team which plays in the west division of the American League in Major League Baseball (MLB). Their west division opponents include; the Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, and the Texas Rangers. The Anaheim Angels play home games at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA.

The Anaheim Angels play in the West division of the American League.  Originally the Los Angeles Angels, then the California Angels, and now Anaheim, the Angels entered the MLB as an expansion team in the American League in 1961.  They notched a 70-91 record, still the best all time for an expansion team in its first year.

After 18 years, the Angels made it to the postseason for the first time in 1979.  Led by MVP Don Baylor, and pitching legend Nolan Ryan, the Angels won their first division title, but would fall to the Orioles in the ALCS.  Led by Manager Gene Mauch, the Angels would reclaim the West Division Championship in 1982.

The Angels organization has seen its share of historic moments in its relatively short existence.  Angels' slugger Reggie Jackson hit his 500th home run on September 17, 1982, becoming only the 13th player in history to do so.  It's impossible to talk about historic Angels moments without remembering Nolan Ryans four no-hitters between 1973 and 1975.  Anaheim saw a few more memorable moments in the 1980s as Mike Witt joined an elite group of pitchers as he threw a perfect game in 1984.  In 1986, Don Sutton earned his 300th career victory, securing a place for himself in Cooperstown.  In that same year, the Angels captured their third West Division Championship, but once again fell short in the ALCS.

In 2002, Anaheim, with the help of off season pickups Vladimir Guerrero, Jose Guillen, and Bartolo Colon made a remarkable run to the World Series, a year after compiling the worst record in franchise history.  In the World Series, the Angels faced the San Francisco Giants and super-slugger Barry Bonds.  The Angels were able to fight back from what looked to be an overwhelming game six deficit and win the World Series in dramatic fashion.

Fast-forward to today, and the Angels had a 2004 season they could be proud about.  Anaheim won its first division title in 18 years, but fell short to the world champion Red Sox in the ALDS.  Behind reigning AL MVP Vlad Guerrero along with shortstop acquisition Orlando Cabrera, the Angels look to be in great shape to have another fantastic season in 2005.

Edison International Field - Anaheim, CA

The Angels play their home games at Edison International Field in Anaheim, California.  Originally called Anaheim Stadium, this ballpark was built in 1966, after the Angels enjoyed one year at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, and a four-year stint at Dodger Stadium.  The ballpark remained relatively unchanged for 30 years until renovations began in 1996.  The $100 million project included larger concourses, new restrooms and concession areas, terraced bullpens, 3 full-service restaurants, and top of the line club lever and dugout level seats.  With these new features and a capacity of over 45,000 fans, tickets to an Angels game all but assure a great time in a great ballpark.
