Dodgers Offseason Update

At the end of the previous season, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants in the last series and secured a new 88-74 record. It landed them in a tie with the San Diego Padres for 1st place in the western division. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers were forced to give up the division title to San Diego. However, they were eventually swept by the Mets in the National League Division Series (0-3). The Los Angeles Dodgers lost the first two games 6-5 and 4-1, and the last game 9-5. The previous season was finished with high 0.543 (88 wins versus 74 losses) and the team became the best in the NL West.

The previous season witnessed many memorable moments. On May 19, 2006, the Dodgers collected twenty-five hits in one game, setting a new franchise record. In August, the team reeled off eleven consecutive victories, which became their longest winning streak since 1993. The following month, four consecutive Los Angeles batters hit home runs in the ninth inning. This was only the 4th time it ever happened in baseball history, and the first time that the final homer tied the match. Several days after that, rookie first baseman James Loney tied Gil Hodges’ 56-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers record with nine RBIs during one game.

On January 12, 2007, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed infielder Damian Jackson, catcher Sandy Martinez, and right-handed Dario Veras to Minor League deals and invited them to Spring Training. On January 15, the team resigned left-handed pitcher Mark Hendrickson to a one-year deal.

The 2007 season will start on April 2 against Milwaukee Brewers.
